Stouts for the Chilly Season

For Christmas, my wonderful, beautiful, gorgeous wife got me a subscription to a craft brew monthly delivery service called BREWPUBLIK. I have received two deliveries so far and I have been very pleased with the selections that they brought. To plug the company briefly, you sign up for 6-12 months and they bring you 12 beers each month. Prior to your first delivery, you set up a flavor profile and let the company know what you like. #DingDongBeer

With my second delivery, I received a really great stout from Founders Brewing Company. Founders is located in Grand Rapids, MI. I have enjoyed many of their beers including Dirty Bastard Scottish Ale and their All Day IPA Session Ale which comes in a 15 pack! It is one of my favorites and a staple in my beer fridge.

The selection from Founders in my delivery was a Russian Imperial Stout. This is one of their seasonal beers and only out January-February. At 10.5% ABV, this stout is perfect for warming up on the cold nights of the Winter season. Although it has a high alcohol content, it is extremely smooth with a rich body. It is very dark throughout the body with a caramel brown color under the head. Enjoy while  you can.

Another great stout that I enjoyed last weekend was Ballast Point's Curry Stout. This is the first beer I have enjoyed from the brewery located in San Diego, CA. I had it at one of our favorite Wine/Beer shops - Vintner Wine Market. Vintner always has a great selection of craft beers on tap that rotate monthly and typically highlights a brewery. This month...it was Ballast Point. The brewery clearly does a great job experimenting with various flavors from pineapple to curry to mango. I may have to convince my wife to go back this weekend to try another selection!
